BRUCE BETHUNE ADAMS J.P.
Bruce Adams became Vice President of the new ‘SCEGGS Redlands Limited School’ from 1976 and retired from that role having served 30 years. As part of this service he took up the appointment as a Trustee of our new Parent Corporation.
Bruce and his wife Marcia had two daughters at Redlands school and coincidentally the family home is, to this day in Middle Harbour not too far from Redlands.
Bruce also spent many meetings as the sitting Chairman due to the incumbent Chairman spending much time on International Business Travels.
As with all of the Three Trustees Bruce also served in WW2 as a member of the RAAF.
Bruce’s business life saw him a continuous member of the ‘L J Hooker Pty Ltd Real Estate Corporation’. He held the following positions at Hookers “Auctioneer General”, “Strata Manager”, “Business Agent”, “Director of Hookers Ltd”, ”Manager of Real Estate Syndications”, “Sydney Suburban Sales Manager”. Additionally Bruce worked in lots of the field Offices such as Crows Nest, Eastwood, Gordon, Kingsford, Maroubra, North Sydney, Parramatta, Randwick, and Strathfield.
Bruce became a Fellow of the Real Estate Institute and the Stock Institute of Australia, conducting duties as a Auctioneer General, Strata Managing Agent, and Business Agent, plus being a Real Estate Valuer.
He spent approximately 50 years in business and whilst working he also joined Rotary mainly for its humanitarian work within our communities, serving in the Neutral Bay Club. Bruce was also invited to join the Board of the Vasey Housing Association of NSW, (an Aged Care establishment for Defence related women), and also served as a volunteer at the Sydney Olympics.
In his youthful days Bruce spent time as a Volunteer of the Warringah Boat Club and later moved on to other duties such as being an active member of the Town Planning and Building Code Committee of the North Sydney Council.
In regard specifically to Bruce’s service to the SCEGGS REDLANDS LIMITED SCHOOL, he served firstly as a member of the P & C Committee shortly after joining the school. Bruce’s wife Marcia joined the Mothers’ Canteen Committee.
Later they both joined together in other school functions, then when the 1974/5 closure became imminent Bruce was elected as one of the three Trustees to investigate the project and advise on how to handle the future.
They became aware that the Diocese had little option to assist, and so the parents authorised the Three Trustees to “Buy the School”, and this led Bruce into the role of a Board Member, the Deputy Chairman, and an on-going “Trustee” of the School Council.
They did achieve their goal, saved the school, and have today a brand new school, a wonderful Parent Company, and a school with a strong asset base.
Bruce Adams, with family.
